Caveat: I have never been to France, so I can only guess at its frenchiness levels. French roads are all called Rue, and there are French flags everywhere, so I can only imagine the real thing is EXACTLY like that.
After the great internet debacle of Saturday (hence my silence the last few days) was sorted out (ish) in the morning, we headed to the nearby town of Akaroa, which was full of all kinds of Frenchy things. In fact, there are a lot of expats from different countries which each represent their respective cultures vibrantly here, mostly by way of food! (I found pasties today. PASTIES!!)
9 million years ago, the Akaroa peninsula was a giant volcano, and now the sea, sailboats, and French people turned Kiwi have moved in. The town was pretty cute, with lots of good food and good views. We hiked up near a lighthouse and through a graveyard. Ayaka complained she was tired halfway through, but she was really tired of walking and wanted to hop like a frog instead, so she did that for quite a ways.
We got dinner at a nice place and I had caramelized duck risotto. It was so good…Makiko and Takuya both got the seafood chowder, and that was good, too. I was a little jealous of their meals!
Totally gorgeous sunset on the way home! Got some great pictures of the hills around the peninsula.
Anyway, since the internet is dead, updates will be less frequent and less picturey.
