Waiting…

After a relatively smooth flight, I’ve hit a bit of an unexpected snag. Sarah’s flight from Chicago to Beijing has been canceled and she’s in line waiting to re-book a flight. I think she’s been waiting for at least four hours now. Ugh. Hope she makes it here on an early flight tomorrow, guess I’ll have to wander to the Watanabes’ by myself!

So far on my journey, I have made several important discoveries:

  • When on a plane to Seattle, at least 50% of the people will be hipsters
  • There is nothing more annoying than a plane on a trans-pacific flight filled with broken, flickering reading lights. On the plus side, I wasn’t tempted to read and actually slept for seven of my eleven hours of plane time…once the reading lights were covered by paper
  • I somehow forgot about the Chinese firewall so accessing facebook to post pics will be a bit tricky
  • …said firewall does not apply to the facebook mobile app on cellular networks!
  • Subsiding on twizzlers is still a bad idea

After waiting for an hour for a taxi at the Beijing airport (and only running over one lady’s foot with my huge luggage. Sorry, lady!), I did indeed make it to my hotel. This place caters to picky foreigners with more money than your average Chinese person, so I will be buying no food here.

Off to the airport, and then to the train to Sarah’s host family’s place, I guess! Wonder when jet lag will hit me…not feeling the 13 hour time difference yet.
