Whales and dolphins and lamb burgers, oh my!

Last full day in Auckland! It’s nice here, I’ll be sad to leave.

I’m staying in Parnell, which is an artsy historic bit of Auckland. Well, all of it is historic, really, but the buildings and cafes of Parnell are exceptionally cute.

Breakfast consisted of hotcakes with feta and capsicums (hehe) on top, and sweet corn inside! So delicious,

Did a bit of shopping after breakfast and ended up getting some locally crafted jewelry items.

I started to count the amount of times I’ve seen souvenir shops carrying the “men at work” signs with a guy about to take a sheep from behind, but I gave up after each store of the first five I visited carried the damned things. Who buys that crap? If it was carved from jade, maybe I’d understand…!

Then, on to whale watching for the entire afternoon! It was of course super cold in the Hauraki Gulf, but we saw four pods of common dolphins and two whales at a distance. I got some great photos! I’ll post them when I return to Christchurch tomorrow.

Dinner was a lamb burger on Princes Wharf, and I read trashy books and watched the sun set over little sailboats on the gulf.

In the Herald this morning, I saw that dems abroad were having an election results party, so I hopped over there to catch the results. Minnesota didn’t ban gay marriage either…woohoo!

Several of the people at the hostel had offered me escape to their countries should mittens be the victor, and it looks like I won’t be taking them up on their offer. Had some good discussions about politics in other countries regardless.

Leaving tomorrow evening, and now this entry must end because this text editor is shit on iPad!
